Geek Actually Podcast show

Geek Actually Podcast

Summary: Do you like to sit around and 'geek out'? What do I mean? You know, sit around with a few friends and talk about you favourite subjects in as much detail as you like, because you all speak the same language. We here at Geek Actually have two great loves: the entertainment industry and the tech industry, so we thought to ourselves, let's geek out and record it. As film geeks and tech geeks, we love our subjects and talk passionately about our stuff. Come and have some fun and join us every Friday. Just a warning though, because we speak candidly about our topics and we approach film and tech reviewing from a "real" point of view, this podcast has to carry an "explicit tag" for infrequent bad language.

Set in the world of male strippers, Magic Mike is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Channing Tatum in a story inspired by his real life. The film follows Mike as he takes a young dancer called The Kid under his wing and schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money. Source: Warner Bros. This show carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language. Listen or download it here or subscribe to it on iTunes Your Show Notes Follow: What We’ve Been Watching: A collection of other things we’ve been watching during the week. Richard watched Katy Perry: Part of Me and Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope. David watched American Reunion and One for the Money. Feature Film Review ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ directed by Christopher Nolan. It is written by Jonathan Nolan & Christopher Nolan and is based on a story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer in turn based on the DC Comics character created by Bob Kane. It stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Matthew Modine, Ben Mendelsohn, Burn Gorman and Nestor Carbonell. Eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham's finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy. Source: IMDB Our Verdict: A fitting and very entertaining conclusion to Christopher Nolan's trilogy. The film does have issues though and really requires the first two films to make sense. For fans of the series, a must see. For the first timers, go watch Batman Begins.  Film Actually Ep093 – The Amazing Spider-Man | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:34:11

This week David, Josh & Richard take a look at the latest reboot out of Hollywood, "The Amazing Spider-Man". Plus What We've Been Watching, Josh's Bargain Basement and a brand new Lists of Five - Five of Our Favourite Villains. Film Actually is the official movie podcast of geekactually.com. Hosts: David McVay, Josh Philpott, Richard Gray & Nicholas McVay The news section is now officially it's own show called Film Actually News. Look for it on the feed because it is loud, fast and under thirty minutes... or your money back. If you are an iTunes user, please leave a review. Your comments help us improve the show. This show carries an explicit tag due to infrequent coarse language. Listen or download it here or subscribe to it on iTunes Your Show Notes: What We’ve Been Watching A collection of other things we’ve been watching during the week. In "Josh's Bargain Basement" he talks about The House of the Devil. Feature Film Review ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ directed by Marc Webb. It is written by James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sergent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel comic book character created by Stan Lee & Steve Ditko. It stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Campbell Scott, Embeth Davidtz, Chris Zylka and Irrfan Khan. The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker, an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors, his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero. Source: Sony Our Verdict: A fun and entertaining superhero film with some huge gaping plot holes and an overall sense of DejaVu. However, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are fantastic and share a great chemistry on screen. Spoiler Section: 00:44:11 - 00:59:11 - Fast forward this bit if you don't want to hear spoilers.
