In 1977, I was 7 years old, living in the outskirts of Chicago, in a town called Schaumburg. that year, winter gripped the chicagoland area more tightly than usual dumping a whopping 80+ inches of snow in our area. In addition to the outstanding adventures my mother an I had trekking to the local grocery store with a tobagan when the roads were a mess, I remember vividly, my mother being the little literal spark plug, providing jump starts to every car in trouble in sight. The bold WHITE LETTERS on a black rectangle, preparing for electrical battled READ: D-I-E H-A-R-D. Die Hard. An indellible vision that is emblazened on my memory even still to this day so man yyears later. 11 years later, in 1988, a different DIE HARD made an impression on me. A movie truly unlike any other, that has become the fusion point for action, mayhem, impossible odds and non-stop action. Die Hard, Directed by John McTiernan, starring Bruce Willis as the man truly, originally, in the wrong place at the wrong time, and Alan Rickman as a villain against probably all villains can be measured STILL. Ahhh, there's no doubt it, folks. 1988's theaters were a GOOD DAY to DIE Hard. The 2GuysTalking Podcast series has been looking for another standard network program to "follow" and not surprisingly, over a year ago when we began the season 6 review of DEXTER, we'd heard about a new, innovative, ground-breaking twisty-turny program called - the following. The true value? Mr. 6 Degrees of separation himself, Kevin Bacon, and a new heart-actually pacemaker pumping edge of your seat story that couldn't be denied. We JUMPED at the domain names, we ha a custom piece of podcast theme music created, the foundation was set, and finally, at the end of our recent 2GuysTalking DEXTER Podcast completion, we made the details to take on this new FOX-based train - The Following. Was the pilot episode an undeniable load hauler, or an undeniable load out of the gate? Y'know, If you're like me, you like a good swearword now and again. In the case of modern day television, DEXTER has always been able to stretch the bounds of appropriate, in particular in the character guise of one Deb Morgan, cavalier police Detective, Lt. Sister Extraordinaire, etc etc. Now, we're not sure how Showtime networks thought we as fans and in particular the review community were going to review an episode named "Surprise, MotherMotherF@#$%&!" - but guess what: We're doing it, MotherF@#$%&s! It's been 11 all-too-short episodes this season with a vast majority being outstanding, Character development galore. Dexter finds love. Completely engaging moments between brother and sister. A villain that we HATED to see to. Good God - when you lead with your sister, the one in charge of the homicide division inside of Miami Dade Metro, finding out that you're a serial killer inside of EPISODE ONE - where can you go from there? The answer is of course, A SURPRISE, MOTHER FMotherF@#$%&S!
