wonderful upgrade March 20, 2010 Karen L. Satterfield (M'boro Tn) This will be short and sweet.
I love my phone. I was a flip phone user for many years and got my hands on this little wonder. It took a few weeks to get used to the keyboard but I got the hang of it. I use the camera and video all that time. FYI I would invest in a card reader and buy a usb cord. I look this phone! Put insurance on it just case. I did! &&& buy a case for it.
Samsung Solstice a887 March 8, 2010 lovingmomof2 (Michigan) I got this on 3/6/10 for my husband. It's his first use of a touchscreen phone other than when he plays around on my iPhone. We got it at Walmart as a free upgrade out the door compared to $49.99 at the AT&T Store, or $169, including package upgrades such as a cheap bluetooth, case, and car charger.
Just be aware, some users reviews said they didn't have to subscribe to an internet service, which apparently, AT&T now requires. I declined it, and I think they didn't push it because Walmart didn't tell us we needed it.
He seems to like the features on the Solstice, such as the camera features and the video. I'll update in a couple weeks as he uses this. The sound is good on both ends so far.
I took a few seconds to look it over..while it's not like my iPhone, it's ok. The widgets on the side panel are easy enough to understand. I liked the funny camera add in features.

I've had this phone for 2 days and it's going back. Hang the restocking fee, I'm not suffering a phone with no ability to edit text with an arrow key on a keyboard. Also PC Studio sync software that does not support Windows 7. It installs and then rejects every driver it tries and will not acknowledge the phone being plugged in or connected via bluetooth. I just moved down from a BlackBerry so maybe I'm expecting too much but spell check and the ability to edit text beyond using a delete key plus, the latest phone being able to talk to a operating system that over 6 months old? It really doesn't seem like I'm asking too much, especially at this price. Lastly these proprietary communication cables have got to stop. Just use USB like everything else for your computer. I don't want to lug around more cables.
Positives, mp3 player sounds good. Touch screen drag and typing seems to work fine.
Clunky and over priced.
Robbed me! February 24, 2010 T. namgyal (USA) 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
Recently I bought Samsung Solstice on Amazon just to replace my lost cell phone. However seller sent me new phone number and At&T account that I didn't asked for. I returned everything within required period and canceled account with AT&T because I already have AT&T account. But I was charged $68...and I don't know for what!!! So I just want to make sure that other customer won't get cheated here! I will strongly recommend not to get this phone on here!!!!
Great simple texting phone February 19, 2010 GardenLili (SW Indiana) I read a lot of reviews before getting this phone. The phone turned out better than I thought it would be after reading the reviews. We use the speakerphone feature a lot, and we do not get the echo other people talked about. I don't know if this was problem fixed by the company or not We got 3 Solstice phones and none of them have an echo. They also work great in our Toyota hands-free system. We do not pay for the AT&T data package and we had no interest in surfing the web on the phone or getting email on it. We do text a lot and we send pictures to each other. It has a much better camera than our previous phone. We also like the keyboard for dialing and the qwerty keyboard which appears when you turn the phone sideways when you are texting. I can easily use the number pad with my fingers and the qwerty keys are big enough for fingers as well. However, as an old Palm Pilot user I prefer to use a stylus when texting. I got a great Nintendo stylus which I keep with the phone. My suggestion is that phones start having the stylus built in like the old Palm Pilot had, The voice quality is also good on the speaker phone. I agree with those who found it a little week when you use it without a speaker phone but not that bad. I don't like putting any cell to my ear so I am a heavy speaker phone user and this speakerphone is so easy to turn on -- unlike my previous phone. I only use the phone to my ear when I am in public. It has 4 modes including an "outdoor" mode for listening but I have not tried this. The address book and calendar are easy to update because of the qwerty keyboard. It is a nice alternative for people who want some texting features but don't want a keyboard with lots of tiny keys like the Blackberry.
