Product Description
The Sony PlayStation is the most popular gaming console. Featuring advanced 3D texture-mapped graphics, full transparency and shading effects, and high-quality CD sound, it was considered impossible to emulate decently until the release of an astonishing emulator. The precise manufacturing methods of the PlayStation have gone through several refinements since the console's arrival. The current production model features a highly integrated chipset. Despite having gone through numerous hardware revisions, the technological core of PlayStation's architecture remains unchanged.

Amazon.com Product Description
The fourth generation of hardware released for the PlayStation 3 entertainment platform, the PlayStation 3 120GB system is the next stage in the evolution of Sony's console gaming powerhouse. Loaded with a mix of multimedia features and functions available on earlier PlayStation 3 models, as well as a series of new advancements and refinements, the PlayStation 3 120GB system is destined to push the envelope in the realm of Next-Generation entertainment.

The PS3 logo
What's Under the Hood
As with previous models, the PlayStation 3 120GB system features an IBM "Cell" processor and a co-developed NVIDIA graphics processor that together allow the system to perform two trillion calculations per second. Yet the 120GB system manages to improve on this with its 45nm version of the processor, which although running at the same 60+nm speed as previous PS3 versions, uses less energy. This makes the unit's smaller size and quieter fan possible. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, the 120GB system also boasts an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TVs and projectors. (The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience) This console also provides for an extreme sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. Finally, it features cross connectivity with your PC network and PlayStation Portable (PSP) and its pre-installed, 120GB hard disc drive allows you to save games as well as download content from The Internet. Unlike The some other models of The PlayStation 3, The 120GB system does not offer backwards compatibility.

Blu-ray, PlayStation Network Downloads and Beyond
PlayStation 3 utilizes The Blu-ray disc media format, which gives you The best high-definition viewing experience on your television, by way of The format's ability to hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This tremendous capacity, combined with The awesome power of The system's processor and graphics card, promises an endless stream of mind-blowing games, and other multimedia content. This doesn't mean though that The PS3 is limited to Blu-ray discs. It also supports CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. In addition, PlayStation 3 system software includes BD Live support that allows you to play discs that support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE), meaning you can also connect to The Internet while playing discs that support this format to obtain additional features. And of course PS3 owners also receive free access to The PlayStation Network (PSN), where through The PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, they can download games, game demos, movies, and other content, as well as chat with friends, play mini-games, compete in tournaments and explore dedicated game spaces.

Sensational Controller
The Dualshock 3 wireless controller included with The PlayStation 3 120GB system provides The most intuitive game play experience, with pressure sensors in each action button and The inclusion of The highly sensitive Sixaxis motion sensing technology. Each hit, crash and explosion is more realistic when The user feels The rumble right in The palm of their hand. It can even detect natural movements for real-time and high precision interactive play, acting as a natural extension of The user’s body. Dualshock 3 utilizes Bluetooth technology for wireless game play and The controller’s detachable USB cable to seamlessly and automatically charge The controller when connected to The PlayStation 3. By integrating all of these features into The popular PlayStation controller design, The Dualshock 3 further enhances The advanced gameplay experience only available on The PlayStation 3 system.

Synch with Your Other Sony HDMI Devices
The PlayStation 3 120GB system features HDMI + Bravia Synch functionality. Bravia Synch allows connectivity between Sony HDMI products, without having to utilize multiple remote controls. This means that with The push of one button users can control compliant Sony devices connected to your PS3 via HDMI cable.

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy- PS3   March 17, 2010

I opened it and it was exactly what I had paid for. As soon as I plugged it in and entered my info I was up and running. I do have one suggestion. Do not expect it to play Playstation 2 software. That was the only great feature that was removed from the PS3 Slim model.

5 out of 5 stars Great Machine   March 17, 2010

I am new to games and this seems to be the perfect machine to begin with. My only concern is that even after downloading the latest operating software from Sony, the PS 3 asks for older and outdated programming before the beginning of a game. I found that the accessories (remote and HDMI cables) were available at a MUCH better price at Amazon than anywhere else.

I would definately recommend this to others.

4 out of 5 stars A GREAT entertainment package   March 15, 2010

I have used a Nintendo Wii for 4 years and an Xbox 360 for 1 1/2 years so I am familiar with all the major gaming systems. We recently received a PS3 slim and I love it!! I will just bullet point the main pros and cons

pros
-Blu Ray player (one of the best ones on the market)

-built in WiFi AND Ethernet jack (Xbox 360 has Ethernet jack, but not WiFi and the Wii has WiFi but not an Ethernet jack)

-Super quiet compare to the Xbox (a little louder than the Wii).

-Can upload music, photos and videos to the hard drive and play right from homescreen. I copied my photos and music on to a flash drive and connected that to my PS3 slim. the PS3 found them and I copied them on to my hard drive (make sure you create individual folders on your flash drive exactly as the following: MUSIC, PHOTO and VIDEO. The PS3 firmware is written to look for those folder names so you need to place your content in their respective folder)

-The photo album software is awesome. My family sat down and watched a photo album set to music right from the Photo Album software that I put together in a couple of minute. It was super easy.

-Web Browser

-Motion sensitive controller (kind of like the Wii). I played Stuntman Ignition and steered my car simply by tilting the controller

-SMK Link made a universal remote called the Blu Link for the PS3. It is AWESOME!

Cons (not a lot, but):
-I don't care for the Sony controller. I think the Xbox 360 is far superior. The 360 was desinged much better: fits hands better, left thumbstick is in a better location and the triggers have a better shape. This is not a deal breaker, but the 360 controller is much better. I tried the Shadow 6 controller that DreamGear made for the PS3. I love the shape and feel of the Shadow 6, but it does NOT work! I should have listened to the reviews

-Need a disc to play instant NetFlix content. I guess I should at least be greatful that Sony and Netflix worked out a way to circumvent the exclusivity deal with Micrsoft, but having NetFlix as an integrated part of the Xbox is nice (it should be noted that NetFlix will be available on the Wii soon as well)

-Not backwards compatible with PS2 games. Really the only PS2 game I want to play is Star Wars Battlefront 2 and maybe they will release a 3??? (there's always hope).

When all is said and done, I definetly recommend the PS3 slim!! Do I recommend it over the Xbox 360? Yes and no. If the PS3 was backwards compatible for ps2 games, I would live with the inferior controller and say definitely. Since it is not backwards compatible the combination of that and the inferior controller makes it a little harder to say "definitely"

i just search online when i recieve it because i can't get it function right for just starting the system
becuase the tv screen is a black and says that the harddrive is broken it need to be recover or something
and it tooks hours to recover. i found online that sony knew these problems and they are going to have a new update just for this system and after that update the system should be fine. well i don't think they really need those update becuase after it recoverd then it just work fine like the other ps3. it just that hard to get started that's all and don't let it stand becuase they said this system is not design read the disc vertically so.. don't let it stand.
