Story
In Dragon Age: Origins the survival of humanity rests in the hands of those chosen by fate. You are a Grey Warden, one of the last of an ancient order of guardians who have defended the lands on the continent of Thedas throughout the centuries. Betrayed by a trusted general in a critical battle, you must hunt down the traitor and bring him to justice. As you fight your way towards the final confrontation with an evil nemesis, you will face monstrous foes and engage in epic quests to unite the disparate peoples of a world at war. A romance with a seductive shapeshifter may hold the key to victory, or she may be a dangerous diversion from the heart of your mission. To be a leader, you must make ruthless decisions and be willing to sacrifice your friends and loved ones for the greater good.

Gameplay
Dragon Age: Origins is a 3D oriented RPG based in a dark, heroic, fantasy realm where moral choices have a lasting impression on the people you meet, the members of your own party and the world around you. The inclusion of subtitle "Origins" in the game's title refers to the six unique origin stories available to new heroes as a new game begins. Each of these has an impact on the player's motivations and his or her experience, and renders a unique prelude, path, and possible ending(s) to the game. There are many different endings to the game based on the origin story of the character and the choices you make as you play through the game. The game features three character classes--warrior, mage, and rogue--and three races of being--Human, Elf or Dwarf--that can assume these classes. Although most game elements, such as weapons, magic, etc., are available to any character, each class and race has different strengths, abilities and affinities which lend themselves to better utilizing different elements.

Dragon Age: Origins is a single player game based on party-based gameplay and combat where the player can join, control and quest with up to three non-player characters (NPC). Players can also quest alone if they so choose, but with the chance of survival are slim. Convincing NPCs to join you, and treating them well may be necessary depending on the varying sentiments between the player and the NPC, or between the NPC's in the party based on the chosen history written into the origin story accepted at the beginning of the game. This uncertainty allows for a variety of possible dynamics within the party ranging from open hostility, all the way to romance. The game progresses in real-time via a pause-and-play tactical combat system that allows the player to check inventory levels, equip a character, etc. in a slight vacuum. Additional features found in the game include: a combination of a standard loot system and a currency system based on gold silver and copper; advanced character customization functionality; the use of poison, traps and herbalism; dual-wielding skills; and "spell combos," which allow players to chain together different spells to create a unique effects.

3 out of 5 stars To the Real Point   March 7, 2010

I'll keep this short and sweet. Yes, there were a few moral dilema situations in which I was very interested. Yes, I was looking forward to this game. But the long and short of it is that I didn't really have that much fun playing through Dragon Age.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!   March 6, 2010

Role playing at it's best! The story line is wonderful and unfolds nicely, some of the side quests are very involved, almost a game unto themselves. I especially enjoy the character relationship aspect of the roll playing. As you go along your adventures you pick up NPC's who join you in your quest, you can build your relationship with them to be be anything from hate to romantic love. The graphics are wonderful and the dialog is well acted. I recommend this game to all!!

4 out of 5 stars Play it for more than an hour and you'll probably like it alot   March 5, 2010

I bought this game on a discount, and within 10 minutes I was wishing I had spent the money on another game. But, having already spent the money, I played on. Happy to say, within 2-3 hours I was glad I'd bought it. This is a fun game, and the story is pretty much the strongest point about it. I don't like the RPG-style combat, but you get used to it (and besides, fighting isn't the main point of the game). At the end of the day, you'll like this game if you liked Fallout 3, Oblivion, and the like. It's nowhere near as awesome as Demon's Souls (a common comparison, so I thought I'd weigh in). My primary complaint is that by now we should see more innovation in a game based almost entirely on a great story and character interactions than a limited selection of text-based dialogue and stodgy choices with few consequences to the decisions being made. Graphics are decent (not great), gameplay is OK, interfacing and game complexity are difficult, and the story is great. Worth the full price? Maybe. Worth another $30-40 for the upcoming expansion, or even a few dollars here and there for PSN DLC? Not for me.

5 out of 5 stars As good as it gets   March 2, 2010

I wont waste a bunch of time typing the same great points that so many others have already made here, but I will say that it is almost perfect! Im not sure what else I would ask for. I see a lot of stuff about the graphics not being great. Are you guys kidding me? The graphocs looks so clean and sharp! definitely High Def graphics. Maybe not as great some games, but C'mon people...dont be a graphics whore. Games are more than just stellar graphics. If its not engrossing and fun, who cares? This game is very fun! It really draws you into the story and before you realize what has happened you will be telling yourself to turn it off and go to bed so you wont be a zombie at work the next day! haha! Although it is not totally sandbox style like Morrowind (also a favorite of mine) it gives you enough freedom and a large enough world to feel that you really could get lost in it. I am really loving this game so far and I absolutely say give it try if you are an RPG fan at all then you will not be disappointed! Great story, graphics, and gameplay = 5 stars!!

3 out of 5 stars A hardcore gamer I'm not...   March 1, 2010

Although I do get consumed for an hour or so each sitting, I can't say as though I'm completely immersed or very impressed. I guess I keep going just to feed my need to finish things that I start. The graphics are fair at best. I was hoping for more.
