You could call this one Hoot Along with Hitch. With the possible exceptions of Topaz and Family Plot, this is Hitchcock's cheesiest movie, visually and psychologically crass in comparison with a peak achievement like Vertigo--although it shares some of that film's characteristic obsessive themes. Sean Connery, fresh from the second Bond picture, From Russia with Love, is a Philadelphia playboy who begins to fall for Tippi Hedren's blonde ice goddess only when he realizes that she's a professional thief; she's come to work in his upper-crust insurance office in order to embezzle mass quantities. His patient program of investigation and surveillance has a creepy, voyeuristic quality that's pure Hitchcock, but all's lost when it emerges that the root of Marnie's problem is phobic sexual frigidity, induced by a childhood trauma. Luckily, Sean is up to the challenge. As it were. Not even D.H. Lawrence believed as fervently as Hitchcock in the curative properties of sexual release. --David Chute

I love Alfred Hitchcock movies and this is one of my favorites, especially because Tippi Hedren is the star and I like her. This movie has plenty of suspense and Sean Connery is great...
Excellent but different from Hitchcock February 16, 2010

I just got a copy of "Marnie", after I had heard about it from a friend. I had even read some of the reviews listed here, on Amazon, and figured that I should take a look at it.
Although, I have only seen "Psycho" and "the Birds" of Hithcock movies, I found this movie to be different than those. It was a pleasant surprise. I found Tippi Hedren's performance to be excellent. In fact, I think that her acting was better here than seen anywhere else.
Without giving away the story, the subtle "effects" in this movie made me wonder and wanting to see the purpose of them. Alas, at the end of the movie all was revealed. I think that Sean Connery did an excellent performance too. In fact, I cannot find fault in any of the acting at all.
I hope that someone could do a remake of it, or even a sequel because it could make a great extension. I recommend it to anyone that likes older movies, Tippi Hedren, or Sean Connery. Those of you that are used to the "horror" works of Alfred Hitchcock may be dissappointed in watching it. So, if you do look at it, keep in mind that the movie is not like "Psycho" or "The Birds" and you may just be pleasantly surprised.

Tippi Hedren stars as Marnie, the title character in this film. Marnie is a compulsive thief, liar, and drifter. She goes from town to town, each time creating a different identity. Marnie is able to insinuate herself into various jobs, then she robs her employers and skips town.
Sean Connery plays Alan, who figures out that Marnie had robbed his company, among others. So he tracks her down. Falling in love with Marnie after he catches her, Alan wants to persuade Marnie to marry him. Marnie just wants Alan to let her go. But Alan wants to protect Marnie, so he offers Marnie a quickie marriage, or the alternative of being turned over to the law.
Tippi Hedrin is wonderful in her role as the neurotic, larcenous Marnie. Sean Connery is impeccably suave and smoothly handsome, as Alan. Both have an antagonistic on-screen chemistry between them, that keeps the viewer intrigued. Marnie is one of Hitcock's better psychological thrillers, from the 60s. It's well worth your time, and it's now available on DVD.
A haunting, absorbing psychological story November 28, 2009

"Marnie" is a classic Hitchcock film that examines the motivations and ultimately the salvation of a deeply troubled young woman, "Marnie" (Tippi Hendren). Sean Connery in his prime plays the other lead, and is absolutely stunning in this role. And of course, the always lovely Tippi Hendren is irresistible as Marnie. Connery shows us his acting range by portraying a loving and vulnerable man, smitten by the troubled and manipulative Marnie.
In classic Hitchcock fashion, every scene in this film is thought out to the nth degree. Every camera angle and every conversation has a purpose; the attention to detail in this film is typical of the approach Hitchcock at his best took with his films. The storyline here never drags, and the compelling storyline combined with superb performances by Connery and Hendren make this film a real treat for the viewer.

You can not go wrong with the Master of Suspense Alfred Hitchcock
- dvd title "Marnie." Tippi Hedren (The Birds) plays a good role
with Sean Connery - you will enjoy the pieces that leave a bit to
the imagination.
