Abstract Soundscapes - Special Podcast

New Sounds from WNYC show

Summary: For this New Sounds, listen to some abstract soundscapes from Poland, from Berlin via an Icelandic composer, and from Brooklyn-based musicians as well.  Hear a soundscape from the Berlin-based Icelandic one-woman band Kira Kira, from her record Feathermagnetik.  Also, listen to something from Brooklyn-based electronic artist Laurel Halo, featuring the voice as instrument.  Then, there's a percussion-centric work, "6," one of the number pieces from John Cage (whose 2012 centennial celebrations are still going on), and a percussive soundscape by another Brooklyn-based musician, drummer/composer Tim Kuhl. Listen to the droney world-jazz inflected soundscape with an infusion of horns and woodwinds, buffered by electronics and tabla from the Polish Band, Sing Sing Penelope. Plus, music from Moon Ate the Dark, and a bit of Johann Johannsson’s score for “Copenhagen Dreams” PROGRAM #3370, Abstract Soundscapes (8/24/2012)                                                 ARTIST(S) RECORDING CUT(S) SOURCE Johann Johannsson Copenhagen Dreams Excerpt [1:00] www.experimedia.net Kira Kira Feathermagnetik Soothe [7:43] Sound Of A Handshake shake 013-cd DL www.anost.net Laurel Halo Quarantine Joy [3:28] Hyperdub HDBCD 014 www.hyperdub.net Sing Sing Penelope This is the music vol. 1 Mini song [11:37] www.singsingpenelope.com wsm.serpent.pl Tim Kuhl St. Helena Tales of Transformation [6:18] timkuhl1.bandcamp.com timkuhl.com John Cage [Glenn Freeman, percussion- all six layers] Three2, Twenty-Three, Six, Twenty-Six: The First Recordings   John Cage: Six [3:05] OgreOgress Prod http://ogreogress.com www.cdbaby.com/cd/johncage2 Gareth Davis & Frances-Marie Uitti Gramercy Detour, excerpt [2:15] Miasmah Records MIA 019 www.miasmah.com Johann Johannsson Copenhagen Dreams The Jewish Cemetary [2:32] Limited edition CD/vinyl. www.experimedia.net Listen at soundcloud.com/experimedia Moon Ate the Dark (Anne Rose Carter & Christopher Bailey) Moon Ate the Dark Sleepwalk [8:34] Sonic Pieces / Morr Music sp 014 www.anost.net OR Download from Emusic.com
